Hello and welcome to the SEEDS blog! I’ve been thinking about doing this for a long time and now I am putting some action behind my thinking.

What do I say first? I will start with sharing about one of the basic needs that has inspired me to write this blog: connection– connection with YOU!

A little story about connection: I live in a railroad town and I frequently take long walks along the train tracks. I enjoy waving at the train engineers as they go by. Sometimes I get a toot of the train horn, which is a big thrill for me! Once, on a beautiful day, when the engineer’s window was open, he leaned way out of his window and waved back with a large muscled arm. Whenever I get an acknowledgement of my wave, I recognize the universality of this need. I believe we are all longing for connection.

You will find that all of my posts will be in homage to universal needs that we all share: connection, meaning, autonomy, play, honesty, peace, to name a few. While these are just word constructs that we use, I believe they point to deep, unnameable longings within each of us that we can feel in our bodies, even just by contemplating the words. I also believe that EVERYTHING we do emanates from an attempt to meet a universal human need. Therefore, understanding needs is the place where we have the opportunity to connect with anyone at any moment in time, regardless of what they are doing.

If you think that connecting with our needs and the needs of others sounds like a nice thing to do on a sunny day, think again: think Gandhi and the Salt March, Martin Luther King and the bus boycott, Viktor Frankl in a concentration camp. They were each seeking strategies to live into their authenticity, regardless of the circumstances, to fulfill deep human needs. This is not a journey for the faint of heart; it is not always pretty, or sweet, or nice. It’s just real. If you are interested, I hope you will keep reading.

This blog post marks the official, more public launch of my business helping individuals and organizations gain clarity regarding basic needs and values, and from that clarity empower them to communicate and act in alignment with their values. I have been sharing this work part time for over three years and I recently left a job to do this full time. On the menu tabs above, you can find out more about what I believe and what I’m offering. I can work in person, over the phone or Skype which means I am available to connect with people all over the world — so you don’t have to be in proximity to my home town to utlilize my services! Thank you for your time.
